A wonderful start to 2016
The 2017 Festival is less than a year away! Once again a program of music, dance, theatre and visual arts will reach right across the state providing outstanding arts experiences for our audiences. There will be new projects from Tasmania’s artists, international and national work of great creativity – in a program that will entertain and inspire.
The beginning of our in-between-festivals-year is a time of planning as we build to the launch of the festival program in November, however in 2014 Ten Days on the Island teamed up with Strut & Fret to present the first Spiegeltent Hobart season and it has been an annual event now for three years, including as part of the 2015 Ten Days on the Island Festival program.
The Spiegeltent Hobart 2016 finished up its fantastic three week run on April 3rd with close to 20,000 tickets sold (25% up on 2014); once again making a destination of its mirrored opulence on the Hobart waterfront. The third Spiegeltent season demonstrated how dedicated and supportive our audiences are.
This year’s tent was the glorious Belgian Aurora, a larger venue than the Jean-Louis that previously graced our waterfront – a testament to the growing fondness audiences have for the travelling luxe entertainment salon.
Many Ten Days on the Island fans will recall The Pacific Crystal Palace, a New Zealand built Spiegeltent, in the 2005 and 2007 festivals. The Crystal Palace also offered a program of cabaret, music, theatre, forums and late-night lounging, all in a magical venue, right in the middle of Parliament Lawns. Our audiences can’t get enough of Spiegeltent glamour and the burlesque, cabaret and popular programming that it allows.
Congratulations to the artists, the audiences and to Strut & Fret for wonderful Spiegeltent Hobart 2016.
