Please note that the Word Walk covers approximately 2 kilometers and includes some uneven pathways due to tree roots, as well as sections with inclines and declines.
Please Note
This is an outdoor event. We advise that you wear appropriate shoes, sun protection and water.
Make sure to bring a pad and pencil!
Ailsa Piper (a self-confessed poetry glutton) also offers her WordWalk, an immersive ‘pilgrimage’ that encourages you to listen, look and create, inspired by the natural world.
These two hours will bring together insights from all three of Ailsa’s published works; her first book was about walking a Spanish camino, and her second was a collection of letters, celebrating an unlikely friendship. Guided by Ailsa, you are invited to pause and reflect on place, to ‘travel’ on ground that may be familiar or new. Marvel at the poetry and music of the word and the wild, and consider what it is to travel away from the familiar, and toward the self. You will have the opportunity to make notes, poems, postcards, even letters, inspired by your observations and presence in the landscape – bring a pad and pencil.
‘The best thing I’ve done for a long time. It was a masterclass in stillness, writing and being.’
