What better way to spend an afternoon? Swoon to glorious music and fine wine in the idyllic setting of the Clover Hill Vineyard. Ten Days on the Island has assembled a stellar trio of singers to thrill audiences with the emotional power of baroque opera. To complement our island landscape, mezzosoprano Anna Dowsley, soprano Sara Macliver and bass-baritone Christopher Richardson will sing sublime arias and excerpts from Handel’s magical and pastoral operas, including Alcina, Orlando and Acis, Galatea and Polifemo in this special concert featuring Tasmania’s own chamber orchestra Van Diemen’s Band, conducted by Benjamin Bayl.

The operas of GF Handel are some of the most ravishing ever written. Why is it, although European settlement didn’t happen until after the Baroque period (roughly 1600-1750), that Australian musicians, singers and audiences adore baroque music with such a passion? Baroque music aficionados, Julia Fredersdorff, Artistic Director of Van Diemen’s Band and Benjamin Bayl, conductor of The Enchanted Island share their theories…
This is an outdoor event, please dress appropriately for the weather.
Performance duration is approximately 2.5 hours.
This is a relaxed family friendly event, feel free to bring a picnic basket and blanket.
We are happy for you to bring your own food, but no BYO drinks. The vineyard is a licensed venue so you can purchase refreshments from the bar.
A selection of food vendors will be at the venue offering snacks and refreshments.
If you wish to bring a folding chair, we ask that you find a spot in the zone allocated for seating. Those who wish to relax on the lawn or a picnic blankets will have access to an area directly in front of the stage. Those of you wishing to bring your own chairs, you’ll be located behind the picnickers. If you are unsure, please ask the friendly staff when you arrive.
Clover Hill Vineyard is a 45min drive from Launceston. Please allow time for parking and busy local roads. We suggest you allow about an hour for the trip.
