accessibility
We want this website to work for everyone.
Ten Days on the Island is committed to digital accessibility. This site has been built with accessibility in mind from the foundations up, not added on as an afterthought. That means semantic structure, proper colour contrast, keyboard navigation, descriptive alt text, and clear focus indicators are part of how the site is built, not features layered on top.
What you can do on this site
You should be able to:
- Navigate the whole site using just a keyboard
- Use a screen reader to access all main content. We are working towards full screen reader compatibility and welcome feedback on your experience
- Zoom up to 200% without text overlapping or running off the screen
- Read all body text against backgrounds that meet AA contrast standards
- Skip repetitive navigation using the “Skip to content” link at the top of every page
- Find your way around using clear, consistent headings
Compliance status
This site has been built and tested in-house against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2, Level AA. This is the standard the Australian Human Rights Commission references when assessing accessibility under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
We have done our best to meet this standard across every page, but no website is ever fully finished. There will be areas we have missed. Where we find issues, we fix them.
Where we are still working
Some content sits outside what we directly control:
- Embedded videos (YouTube, Vimeo) follow the host platform’s accessibility settings
- Older PDFs in our archive may not meet current accessibility standards. We aim to publish new documents in accessible formats
- Third-party newsletter signup, donation, and ticketing tools have their own accessibility statements published by their providers
If any of these create a barrier for you, please get in touch using the panel on the right.
Festival accessibility
Detailed access information for Festival 2027 will be published as the program is confirmed. This will include Auslan interpretation, audio description, captioned and relaxed performances, tactile tours, venue mobility access, and assistance dog facilities.
If you would like us to know about your access requirements ahead of time, use the panel on the right to register your details. We will contact you when the program and venue information is confirmed.
We acknowledge that everyone’s experience of disability is different. We will not always get it right, but we will always listen and act on what we hear.
